\"Book<\/a>This book is somewhat unique in that it shows, through a good number of cases, that homeopathy can be used alongside allopathy in treating serious disorders in intensive care<\/strong><\/em> and emergency<\/strong><\/em>. There are a total of 145 cases, of which 41 pertain to Intensive Care<\/strong><\/em> and the remaining 104 pertain to Emergency<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

The authors are all doctors, with some of them having a formal degree in allopathy. To my pleasant surprise, the book includes contributions from three Indian homeopaths, Dr.Farokh Master<\/strong><\/em>, Dr.Jayesh Dhingreja<\/strong><\/em> and Dr.Edacheril Scaria Rajendran<\/strong><\/em>. A majority of the cases discussed in the book are presented by the editors themselves.<\/p>\n

The entire material is divided into 4 sections. Section 1<\/strong> <\/em>provides the necessary background and covers the following topics:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

– Using homeopathy in clinical setting<\/span><\/p>\n

– Important points to consider when using homeopathic treatment as an adjuvant in intensive medicine<\/span><\/p>\n

– How to administer the remedy<\/span><\/p>\n

– Choice of potency and repetition<\/span><\/p>\n

– Combining conventional and homeopathic medicines<\/span><\/p>\n

– End-of-life care<\/span><\/p>\n

– How are homeopathic remedies made?<\/span><\/p>\n

– A comprehensive table of homeopathic remedies typically required in ICU<\/span><\/p>\n

Section 2<\/strong><\/em> discusses various disorders pertaining to Intensive Care<\/strong><\/em>. The categories covered under this heading are<\/p>\n

– Infectious diseases<\/span><\/p>\n

– Disorders of Haemostasis<\/span><\/p>\n

– Heart, circulation and blood vessels<\/span><\/p>\n

– Lungs<\/span><\/p>\n

– Kidneys<\/span><\/p>\n

– Gastrointestinal tract<\/span><\/p>\n

– Perioperative care<\/span><\/p>\n

– Toxicology<\/span><\/p>\n

There is a separate chapter for each of the above, starting with a good overview and followed by actual cases.<\/p>\n

Section 3<\/strong><\/em> is about Emergency medicine<\/strong><\/em>. It includes the following categories:<\/p>\n

– Cardiovascular emergencies<\/span><\/p>\n

– Lungs<\/span><\/p>\n

– Gastrointestinal emergencies<\/span><\/p>\n

– Gynaecology and obstetrics<\/span><\/p>\n

This section also follows the same structure as Section 2<\/strong><\/em>. It is nice that the editors have chosen to include even \u201cPsychiatric emergencies\u201d<\/strong><\/em>. I found the cases in this chapter quite interesting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The various cases presented in the book\u00a0all have the following structure:<\/p>\n

– Diagnosis<\/span><\/p>\n

– Conventional treatment<\/span><\/p>\n
